City Councilors in Green, OH, have approved the purchase of a new 100-foot aerial platform at a recent meeting, according to a report published by CantoRep.com|The Repository.

The $1.3 million apparatus will be a Pierce Velocity heavy-duty platform aerial, according to the paper. Its final cost is less than the city’s first allocation of $1.5 million for the apparatus and the department will receive a $38,958 discount for prepaying the total cost of the apparatus before delivery.

Funds to pay for the aerial will be taken from the city’s ambulance billing and Nexus Pipeline funds, the paper reported.

Firefighters in Neville, Saskatchewan, Canada, have started fundraising to replace a fire truck that bent in half during a call last fall and became in operable, according to a report published by SwiftCurrent Online.

While responding to a grass fire call last September, one of Neville’s apparatus became inoperable while carrying 1,200-gallons of water, the web site reported.

Since, firefighters have been looking for an affordable replacement and found a 1989 truck owned by local farmers, according to the report, which added the farmers agreed to sell the truck for what they paid for it after hearing the firefighters plight.

To pay for the truck and modifications to the station’s door to fit the apparatus inside, Neville firefighters are looking to raise $50,000, according to the web site.

The fire department recently started the fundraising in earnest, sending solicitation letters to residents and businesses, according to the report.

Typically, the department gets only one or two calls per year, but in 2020, they had 14 calls, 12 grass fires, one house fire and a pole fire, the web site reported.

A Ford F-450 four-door squad truck, belonging to the Richardsville Volunteer Fire Department, in Warren County, KY, was stolen and stripped of equipment earlier this week, according to a report broadcast by WNKY METV40.

The truck was stolen sometime around 5:30 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 24 from Station 2, according to the television station.

Hours later, the apparatus was found on the side of the road, abandoned and stripped of equipment, WNKY reported.

Thieves took all of the tools from the truck, including chainsaws, blowers and hand tools. An iPad in an Otterbox case, a medical bag and an water fire extinguisher can were also stolen, according to the report.

The truck remains out of service until the department can replace the stolen tools, according to WNKY.

Firefighters in Washington City, UT, were able to convince the city council they need a new fire truck immediately and got $620,000 to buy a demonstrator, according to a report published by St. George News.

Firefighters and officers told the councilors that two of the department’s four engines had severe mechanical problems and one was deemed irreparable and taken out of service, according to the published report.

The department’s 1995 Becker engine developed some sort of braking and shifting issues that where thought to be electrical in nature and several experts were unable to fix the issue even after more than $10,000 had been spent on the apparatus, St. George News reported.

Convinced of the immediate need, councilors voted unanimous to approve the emergency purchase, according to the report. Fire officers said they have been in contact with Pierce to purchase a demonstrator engine which will reduce the delivery time which can be a year, according to the publication.
