Chubbuck (ID) Seeks Federal Grant for Second Fire Station

The City of Chubbuck is seeking $9 million in federal funds to add a second fire station, reports Idaho State Journal.

The mayor said that the city intends to start a remodel of its police station in July or August, and adding an additional fire station will be a top priority.

The second fire station is needed after the city’s population has grown to more than 16,000.

According to the Idaho Department of Financial Management, the state is poised to receive $1.188 billion from the $1.9 trillion federal stimulus plan, called the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

Furthermore, Idaho counties will receive a combined $347 million, cities with populations of at least 50,000 will receive a combined $125 million and smaller non-entitlement cities will receive a combined $104 million, according to the department.

East Liverpool (OH) Wants to Replace 91-Year-Old Fire Station

East Liverpool officials are considering replacing a fire station that is steeped in history but is showing signs of age, reports WKBN 27.

The fire station’s flat, concrete roof was replaced in the 1990s but is leaking and could cost $50,000 to fix.

The building does not have insulation or central air, and the metal window lintels are rusting and causing the brick to bow out.

The fire department has needed to special order fire trucks with narrower mirrors so they can fit. They also have to park their hazardous material truck outside because they’re out of room.

National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Releases 2020 Annual Impact Report

Foundation looks ahead to 2021

Emmitsburg, MD (April 5, 2021) – The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is pleased to present its 2020 Annual Impact Report. This year’s impact report outlines how, through your support, we’ve been able to continue our efforts to honor and remember America’s fallen fire heroes, assist their families, and to reduce firefighter line-of-duty deaths and injuries.

Congress created the 501(c)(3) non-profit NFFF in 1992, located in Emmitsburg, Maryland, the home of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. The Foundation relies on support from caring individuals, organizations, and corporations, to support programs such as the Fire Hero Family Network, the Hal Bruno Camps for Kids, Fire Hero Family Wellness Conference, Peer Support, Scholarship Programs, the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, and the Everyone Goes Home® program.

While COVID-19 may have restricted the NFFF’s ability to carry out its programs in-person in 2020, the Foundation’s pursuit of its mission never waned. Virtual gatherings replaced in-person events and the Foundation continued to serve our Fire Hero Families and firefighters.

COVID-19 caused some interruption in our fundraising efforts, but the continued support of our corporate partners, donors, and volunteers, helped us to continue to fulfill our mission. Your compassion, dedication, and commitment to our nation’s firefighters and the families of our fallen is valued not only by the Foundation, but the families and firefighters we serve.

The NFFF will continue to carry out its mission in 2021, we stand ready to respond to the challenges ahead. Moreover, the Foundation will continue to assist the families of our fallen firefighters and the fire service.
