The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

Shreveport (LA) Voters to Decide Fire Apparatus Replacement

The bond issue on the ballot for Shreveport voters in November includes $16 million for equipment replacement, reports KEEL

There is also money in the bond issue to replace 3 current fire stations. Station 11 on Youree Drive would be rebuilt at a cost of $3 million. New stations will also be built to replace station 14 on Greenwood Road and station 15 on West 70th. Each of the new stations would cost $3 million.

There is also $1.4 million for fire station renovations & maintenance.

Akron (OH) Hosting Open Houses for Two New Fire Stations

The Akron Fire Department will host open house events for its two new fire stations, reports cleveland.com.

The open houses will offer hands-only CPR demonstrations, sign-ups for free smoke detectors and light refreshments.

The new fire stations are the first to be rebuilt using funds from Issue 4, which passed in 2017. The voter-approved city income tax increase raised taxes from 2.25% to 2.5%.

Sidney Fire (CA) Takes Possession of Used Fire Apparatus

Sidney Fire recently took possession of a used 2005 fire truck, reports Saanich News.

It allows the operator pumping to stand on the truck rather than at the side, affording them protection from any side-swiping vehicles on the highway. It is also so big it can be positioned to shield firefighters from passing highway traffic and it also can act as a reserve engine, providing a surplus of pumping capacity.
