Deadly Crash Damages Lexington (KY) Fire Station

Lexington police are investigating a deadly crash that damaged a Lexington Fire Station. The crash happened Tuesday night, just before midnight, on East Maxwell Street at Woodland Avenue. Lexington police said it appears the driver of a truck ran a red light and hit a car that was stopped at the light.

Lexington police said it appears the driver of a truck ran a red light and hit a car that was stopped at the light. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said the driver of the truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. He said it appears alcohol was a factor.

Congress Members Push for New Pentagon Fire Station

Congress members are pushing for funding and a new formal proposal to rebuild the Pentagon fire station destroyed in the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. Plans to rebuild the station have stalled amid cost concerns, the News4 I-Team reported in May.
The destroyed fire station housed firefighters and a crash truck assigned to respond to emergencies at the Pentagon’s helipad, which handles incoming and outgoing helicopter flights for military administrators, foreign dignitaries and the president’s Marine One. U.S. Department of Defense officials and the local firefighter union have discussed rebuilding the station during the past 15 years.

The I-Team investigation revealed a series of bureaucratic hurdles, including a Defense Department cost estimate that wildly misjudged the price of the project, have stalled the project. There is no longer a firm working plan for the rebuilding of the station and no timetable for its commencement or completion

Car Crashes Into Water Control Device, Flooding Jupiter (FL) Fire Station

A fire station in Jupiter was flooded after a car lost control, crashed into a 4-inch water back flow control device and hit a tree early Thursday morning.
Officials say only one person was in the car at the time of the crash and that the car may have gone airborne after hitting the water control device. The crash also damaged the water line.

Island Creek (KY) VFD Upgrades Fire Apparatus

After many months of searching for a new fire truck, the Island Creek Volunteer Fire Department purchased a 1996 fire truck to replace an older model. On Wednesday afternoon, the fire truck was delivered from Georgia. Randy Courtney, Fire Chief at Island Creek Volunteer Fire Department, said this new truck has enhanced capabilities.
