Surry Community College (NC) Donates Fire Apparatus to Tractor Brown's Museum and Event Center

After a year's worth of repair and refurbishment by automotive students at Surry Community College, Dobson Fire Department's 1958 fire truck left the Dobson campus one recent morning on a journey to its new home - Tractor Brown's Museum and Event Center in Yadkinville.
For several years, the truck was actively used in the training process, but as new technology and trucks were updated, the "vintage" truck was used in a comparison of the foundation of firefighting to the updated equipment.

For more than a year, the college’s automotive technology students and instructors have been working to restore the truck to running order, a task which instructor David Weavil said was monumental. “It was a good experience for the students,” he said. “The brakes didn’t work, and it didn’t crank. It’s sheer size and weight were a challenge in getting it to the shop from the training center.”

Is the Fire Truck of the Future this Wild Gyroscopic Vehicle?

The year is 2037. A skyscraper is in flames. A fire truck speeds to put out the fire, but traffic is at a standstill. Big problem, right? Not for this wonderfully imaginative design for the fire truck of tomorrow, which can elevate above traffic and glide between cars on wheels supported by a pair of gyroscopic columns.

And that doesn’t even get us to the huge drone waiting to be deployed when the fire truck reaches the blaze.

Fire Department Awarded Money for New Ladder Truck | C & G Newspapers

ST. CLAIR SHORES — After more than a year of hoping, budgeting and waiting, the St. Clair Shores Fire Department has been awarded a grant to purchase a new “quint” ladder truck, replacing the functions of

The quint that will be purchased with the grant money is a multifunctional ladder truck, Koepp said. It will replace a 1990 quint that has mechanical and structural issues, according to Krotche. The truck is needed for the city to keep its ISO rating, which affects insurance rates in the city, and to give firefighters the tools they need when they have to fight a fire from a higher elevation.

A Priceless Treasure for Father and Son

Since 1986, Circle K has seen plenty of fire trucks pass through its doors. [...] it's one fire truck that will forever hold a special place in Al and Rod Kloha's hearts: a 1946 W. S. Darley truck. The fire truck saga begins in 1946 when the Beaverton Fire Department purchased a 1946 Darley fire engine.

The fire truck saga begins in 1946 when the Beaverton Fire Department purchased a 1946 Darley fire engine. The engine remained in service until 2002 when a new truck was purchased from Circle K, which had been a Darley dealer since 1993. Founded by Al Kloha in 1986, Circle K took the 1946 engine as a trade-in for the new one.

"Of course, Pops (Al) wanted to keep it," said son, Ron, who now owns the business. "It was in service right up until the day it was replaced in 2002. It has had many years of wear and tear on it."
