City Approves Ambulance Purchases

Posted March 2, 2017 A new set of ambulances is expected to arrive later this year to the Sterling Heights Fire Department as it gets ready to handle emergency medical transport in the city. The Sterling Heights City Council unanimously voted Feb. 7 to buy five new ambulances for a total cost of around $807,700.

"Besides the ambulances, the Fire Department’s plan calls for the purchase of equipment and the hiring of 15 firefighters. Councilwoman Maria Schmidt asked whether the city was seeking grants. Sterling Heights Fire Chief Chris Martin said the city is pursuing a grant for the hiring of the firefighters, and Vanderpool elaborated on that."

Growing CCEMS Aims to Update Ambulance Fleet and Equipment, Introduce New Service

Fourteen years after Cache County and Logan city signed an interlocal agreement to merge their emergency response teams under the banner of Cache County Emergency Medical Services, CCEMS officials are reporting continued success of the program and predicting additional growth. Smithfield Fire Chief and CCEMS Ambulance Administrator Jay Downs offered a report to the Cache County Council at its Feb.

Downs said CCEMS recently replaced two aging ambulances for Logan stations, one from 2001 and another from 2002, each of them with approximately 230,000 miles on them. He said another ambulance purchase is confirmed for this year to replace an ambulance from 1999 for use in 911 calls, providing an additional update to the current fleet.

Montague VFD Receives Grant to Purchase New Brush Truck

The Montague Volunteer Fire Department has received a new brush truck to add to their fleet, thanks to a grant provided by the Texas A&M Forest Service.

“We retired a 1965 brush truck that we built out ourselves,” Montague Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Tommy Fenoglio said in a press release. “It didn’t have all of the updates that this new truck has. We put a lot of time and thought into getting the right equipment that would allow the department to best serve the community.”

New Rescue Truck Game Changer for MFD

New enhanced fire/rescue truck a game changer for Miami Fire Department. MIAMI - A brand spanking new, shiny red 2017 Ford 550 XL Fire/Rescue Truck No. 5 was delivered to the South Miami Fire Station on Wednesday.

The new fire/rescue truck was purchased in a lease to own agreement with Unruh Fire to replace an old unit.

"We will be making payments. We're using our county funds through tax money," Highsmith said.

Schamle went over each feature of the truck and explained them to the firefighters.

"This truck will do anything," Schamle said. "It's built for a lot of storage, specifically for all the items needed for the department. It's not just open for stuffing anything anywhere – there's specific slots for spine boards, and Stokes baskets and SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) packs, everything is designated for very specific items."
