Manhole Explosion Reported Near Union Square Station

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There's been a manhole explosion near the Union Square station. It happened at Broadway and East 13th Street. The FDNY said there are high levels of carbon monoxide in some nearby buildings, which are now being evacuated. Stay with CBSNewYork.com for more as this story develops.
The FDNY’s Ladder 3 truck was also singed while sitting on top of one of the fires.

Crews Called to Put Out Fire at Saylor Township Fire Department

DES MOINES, Iowa - Firefighters from Ankeny and Altoona were called out early Friday morning to help put out flames at another fire department. Mutual aid was called out to the Saylor Township Fire Department at 211 54th Street around 5:15 a.m. when the fire was discovered.
Officials on scene say the fire started after crews were cleaning up a grill Thursday night that was to be used during a pancake breakfast Saturday. A grill cleaning brick was discarded in a box of rags and sparked the fire.

Area Fire Department Receives Grant for Grain Bin Rescue Tube

Morrill Fire Department (FD) received a $1,800 grant for a grain bin rescue tube from the Frontier Farm Credit Working Here Fund. Morrill FD purchased a grain bin rescue tube for grain bin entrapment rescue services. The grain bin rescue tube will help to protect the communities of Morrill Township and Hamlin Township in Brown County and surrounding areas.

Shoals Ambulance Adds New Transafe Ramp to Emergency Vehicles

Shoals Ambulance has added a Transafe ramp to all of their ambulances in Lauderdale County. The ramp is designed to accommodate patients over 350 pounds. According to a press release sent out by Shoals Ambulance, the ramp attaches to the outside portion of the ambulance and uses a motorized track to move the patient into an ambulance once they are on a stretcher.

Shoals Ambulance said the new device makes it safer and easier to move an overweight patient. It also reduces the risk of EMTs and paramedics getting injured.
