Town Shows Off New Shiny, Red Fire Truck

What's shiny, red and costs almost half a million dollars? A fire truck, that's what, and South Boston Fire Department's newest piece of rolling stock was on display in front of town council chambers on Monday evening before town's council's work session got underway.
The new truck cost $450,477. The cab and chassis were complete in December, with plumbing and painting completed in January. The truck is now in service.

Port Canaveral (FL), Cape Canaveral Share Cost of New Fire Truck, Donate Old Truck To Volunteer Dept.

BREVARD COUNTY * CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA - Canaveral Fire Rescue, which serves Port Canaveral and the city of Cape Canaveral, is putting its brand new fire truck into service. The 2017 2000-gallon-per-minute pumper has 33 percent more capacity than the 1991 truck it is replacing, which was the largest available at the time.
The 2017 pumper has a 2,000-gpm pump, which increases its pumping capacity by about 1/3 over the 1991 truck it is replacing. The 1991 truck, although retired by Port Canaveral, is being donated to a fire company near Tallahassee.

Heflin (LA) Volunteer Fire Department Purchases New Fire Truck

The Heflin Volunteer Fire Department has purchased a brand-new fire truck to replace one in its fleet of six. The 2,500-gallon pumper tanker has all new equipment, foam and hoses to fight fires in Fire Protection District 12.
The pumper-tanker features a 2,500-gallon tank and replaces one of the department's six rigs. The $360,000 fire apparatus also carried foam and offers compartmentation for SCBA and various hose fittings.

Lynbrook (NY) Headquarters to be Named After Late Chief

The headquarters for the Lynbrook Fire Department will soon be renamed in honor of former longtime Chief James McDermott, who died in August at age 55. Mayor Bill Hendrick announced the news at the Feb. 21 village board meeting. "He was really a great guy and everybody knew about him," Hendrick said.
McDermott served as chief of the department for the first time in 2002 and then again in 2012. He was the only person to ever be elected to serve a second term as chief in the 116-year history of the Lynbrook Fire Department.
