Freightliner says it will lay off about 800 workers in North Carolina as part of an international reduction in workforce. Freightliner says it will lay off about 800 workers in North Carolina as part of an international reduction in workforce.

David Giroux with Freightliner's parent company, Daimler Trucks North America told local media outlets that about 600 workers are being laid off at the plant in Mount Holly on July 1.

The company will let about 200 workers go at a parts and logistics plant in Gastonia on June 24.

Giroux said the layoffs should be temporary.

Daimler expects a 15 percent drop in sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, which are made in Mount Holly.

Mount Holly City Manager Danny Jackson said he's disappointed by the decision.

The vice president of the Mount Holly chapter of the United Autoworkers union would not talk about the layoffs.

United Kingdom Ambulance Explodes at Hospital Fire

Emergency services rushed to a three vehicle fire when three ambulances went up in flames - outside a hospital.
Local residents reported hearing loud bangs and smoke billowing from the East Surrey Hospital after three ambulances parked outside caught fire at around 2pm today.

Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust confirmed they are dealing with the incident, involving the ambulances but no one has been injured.

Patients watched in horror as the three ambulances burst into flames, causing more than half a million pounds worth of damage and shutting down the entire accident and emergency department.

The fire was declared as a major incident after the canopy at the front of the hospital caught fire and patients were escorted out of the accident and emergency block as the billowing smoke spread inside the building.

It was believed that one of the vehicles caught fire while it was parked outside the hospital entrance and the inferno spread to at least two other vehicles parked nearby.

Ukraine to Put Motorbike Ambulance on Road

Medical motorcycles save time in traffic and are cheaper than four-wheelers Ukrainian Union of Paramedics is planning to add a new dimention to medical care with the launch of bike ambulances in Kyiv.
Ukrainian Union of Paramedics is planning to add a new dimention to medical care with the launch of bike ambulances in Kyiv. Aimed at reducing deaths due to road accidents and emergency cases, this initiative will help save time in heavy traffic when a regular ambulance is unable to reach the patient on time.

The first fully-equipped motorcycle will be out on the roads of Ukrainian capital in April 2017. Until then, the organisers are looking for donors who would cover the cost of bikes and uniforms. The Union of Paramedics is ready to provide the new service with all necessary medical equipment.
