With the weather finally matching up to the calendar, fire restrictions have dropped for almost all districts in Oregon and Washington. The number of acres burned this year in the pacific northwest is significantly lower than in recent fire seasons. KATU News spoke with the Washington Department of Natural Resources about the agency's efforts to keep numbers low.

A structure fire has taken one life in Moses Lake. According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, the fire began early on Sunday morning and was called in around 8 a.m. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene but found the fire was fully involved, meaning the fire had already completely covered the structure.

Firefighters with the Lancaster County (PA) Fire Department have been saving for nearly three decades for a new fire station and on Saturday, they finally broke ground, the first step of construction, according to a report published by CBS Local 21.

According to the report, firefighters have saved over $2 million to put toward the new station and the county earmarked $500,000 from federal American Rescue Program funds.

A new station would help consolidate two stations into one and help reduce response times, according to the report.

The new station is hoped to help the department recruit new volunteers to fill the ranks that were decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the report, that added the station is expected to be completed by September 2023.

Franklin County (KY) Fire Department has donated a fire truck to flood ravaged Letcher County (KY), according to a report published by The State Journal.

According to the report, the fire truck was removed from service in Franklin County and hasn’t been in service for more than a year and the department has tried multiple times to sell the surplus vehicle.

Letcher County accepted the vehicle which could be put in service almost immediately with minor repairs, according to the report, which also said it will be put back in service where it will do the most good.
