This week marks the start of National Fire Prevention month

As wildfire season starts to die down, local Fire Leaders hope to remind the public that house-fires can happen at any moment, usually when we least expect it, they say the best way to be prepared is to practice. Ben Shearer, Public Relations Officer at the Pasco Fire Department says. "This year's theme is "Fire won't wait, plan your escape", what we're trying to make people understand is fire is fast.

St. George (LA) Fire Selling Heavy Rescue Truck

If a fire station is in need of a nearly 3-ton, 35-foot fire truck designed to carry heavy rescue equipment, there is an opportunity to bid for one owned by the St. George (LA) Fire Protection District, TheAdvocate.com reported

As of Wednesday afternoon, a bidder only needed to offer more than $11,300 to take the lead in the auction for the 2013 Ferrara Igniter Heavy Rescue Fire Truck, which ends Sunday morning, the report said.

The St. George Fire Department is selling the truck because it’s been deemed a surplus, according to the report.

St. George bought the truck 10 years ago for just under $500,000 and is currently valued at $150,000, the report said. It’s only been operated by about 25 firefighters because of its specialized purpose for heavy rescues.

The truck doesn’t transport water to the scene of a fire like a normal fire truck, instead it’s designed to carry a vast array of heavy equipment like the jaws of life, generators and ladders, the report said.

The fire truck has an aluminum cab with four travel seats, a command desk with additional seats and mounts for computers and radios. The truck also includes a generator and an extendable light tower. For low oxygen settings, a breathing air storage system is included in the truck, the report said.

More Than 40% of 911 Response Incidents Involve Geriatric Population, New Report Shows

LAKEVILLE, MINN. [October 6, 2022] – ImageTrend, Inc. released the latest report as part of the company’s Collaborate™ research initiative. Volume 2, Issue 1 of the Collaborate Short Report looks at almost 18 million prehospital patient encounters to deliver quick and comprehensive insights to Prehospital Incidents in the Geriatric Population from January 2019 to June 2022.

The proportion of geriatric incidents in the prehospital setting has increased over the last three years and is expected to continue to do so as the overall population age also increases. This report delivers insights from incident descriptives and community-level social determinants of health that play a factor in the healthcare spectrum, supporting the evaluation of EMS usage for the geriatric population and the ability for other healthcare services to aid in non-emergent prehospital issues.

“The geriatric population relies heavily on EMS for a wide variety of health issues and aid unique to this age group,” said Morgan Anderson, ImageTrend Research Manager and Epidemiologist. “Having the ability to look at prehospital data along with social determinants of health can help pinpoint ways to better serve those in our communities and support a higher quality of life.”

Site Formerly Slated for Cannabis Operation Eyed for Bourne (MA) Fire Station

The search committee trying to identify a location for a firehouse south of the Bourne Bridge is essentially down to one tract after first reviewing a list of seven options, even as selection of a station architect gets under way Thursday, CapeCodTimes.com reported.

The top location, which may not be for sale at this point, is a four-acre parcel off Route 28 (MacArthur Boulevard) in Monument Beach. The site housed the long-closed Adventure Isle amusement center, the report said.

The Haven Center, a recreational marijuana dispensary with a location in Provincetown, purchased the site and hoped to open a marijuana cultivation center there. However, this summer, the state Supreme Judicial Court upheld Bourne’s ban on recreational marijuana shops, which Haven had appealed, the report said.

There have been no town overtures to the owners, who are listed as Circle O LLC & MacArthur Park Place LLC. The assessed valuation totals $2.5 million, according to the report.

Troopers Claim Escambia County (FL) Fire Truck Failed to Yield Right of Way in Crash

The investigation continued Wednesday after Florida Highway Patrol said a fire truck crashed into a car, WEARTV.com reported.

It happened on North W Street and Mobile Highway. FHP says the driver of the car was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries, the report said.

Escambia County told WEAR News, that the fire truck was heading to reports of a fire on Boeing Street at the time of the incident, according to the report.

Legally drivers have to yield to emergency responders, but investigators say those first responders also have a duty to avoid hitting drivers, the report said.

With the truck’s lights and sirens on, video footage shows the Escambia County fire truck T-bone the driver, the report said.

Florida Highway Patrol’s report says the fire truck was at fault saying the driver “failed to yield right of way to oncoming traffic after attempting to clear the intersection while running lights and sirens,” according to the report.

FHP says none of the firefighters were injured in the crash, the report said.
