Yakima Valley is Washington's Worst Potential Fire Season Area

Another busy fire season should be expected this year with land around Yakima especially vulnerable. Speaking at a conference of wildland firefighters from Alaska, Washington and Oregon at the Yakima Convention Center, Josh Clark, a meteorologist with the state Department of Natural Resources said, “If I were to pick one place that might experience above-average fire danger, it’s the Yakima Valley and the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains.

Firefighters dangle from Moses Lake water tower during rope rescue training

Firefighters were literally shown the ropes during rope rescue training at the Olive Way water tower in Moses Lake on Friday. The Moses Lake Fire Department receives special training like this every three years. Firemen learned to trust one another while dangling from above and on the ground. Moses Lake Firefighter Schrad Rouse says Friday’s rope session was part of a three day training series.

Richland firefighters handing out free food to community

Firefighters in Richland are helping those who need some extra food on the table. Richland Fire & Emergency Services is joining 2nd Harvest Friday, April 6, at the Uptown Parking Lot to hand out free produce and nonperishable products to the community. The firefighter's Community Outreach Program partnered with 2nd Harvest to organize the mobile market, which includes nearly 8,500 pounds of food items.

Follow Up: Welding is possible cause of shed fire in Kennewick

Benton County Deputies say welding could be a factor in a structure fire on the 900 block of east 23rd Avenue in Kennewick. When Benton County Fire District 1 and the Kennewick Fire Department arrived to the scene around 5 p.m. they heard gas cans and paint cans popping. The street was blocked off for over an hour as police and fire engines filled the street in front of the home.

Yakima firefighter goes home from hospital 4 days after injury

A Yakima firefighter is on the mend after breaking several ribs and puncturing a lung during a house fire Sunday at about 9 a.m. Lt. Cody Burton was one of several first responders at a house fire on Cornell Avenue near Mead Avenue that morning. The vacant was damaged the previous day from another fire.
