Firefighters in Entiat are offering to cool off members of the public with their fire hoses Thursday, in what's forecast to be the hottest day of the year so far at 110 degrees. Chelan County Fire District 8 says it'll be testing the deck guns on its fire engines at the Entiat City Park, as long as it's not fighting a actual fire.

The City of Vancouver has begun cleaning up homeless camps and ordering residents to move out in areas that are considered at risk for wildfires. It's the first round of enforcement under a new city ordinance aimed at ending homeless camping in public places that could quickly burn. "This is quite dangerous during fire season," said Jamie Spinelli, Vancouver’s homeless response coordinator.

So far, fire season is the tamest it’s been in the Evergreen State since before 2017. Fires this year in the state of Washington burned 6,688 acres as of July 25. That’s 12,551 acres less than 2020, the next lowest in the past six years. By this time last year, over 126 thousand acres had burned on 17 separate large wildfires.

Firefighters in Gearhart (OR) have turned to the public for help to figure out who hit their department SUV while it was responding to a call on Saturday morning, according to a report published by Seaside Signal.

About $4,000 damage was done when a motorist crossed lanes and hit the command vehicle on US Highway 101 and fled the scene, according to the report.

Gearhart Fire Department staff were heading to a medical call when the crash occurred, according to the report, that added the response to the initial call was not affected by the hit-and-run incident.

No injuries were reported, according to the report which also asked that anyone with information to contact the Oregon State Police, Astoria Area Command.
