West Des Moines (IA) Fire Department Puts Head-Turning Aerial in Service

West Des Moines (IA) Fire Department has put a new 60-foot long tractor-drawn aerial in service, according to a report published by KCCI 8.

The new apparatus, built by Pierce, has a pump and a tank as if it were two trucks in one, according to the report, that also said it came with a $1.5 million price tag.

It is a unique fire truck in the area not accustom to tiller aerial with steering in the back, according to the report, which also said those who drive it say it’s like being in a parade all the time with people head swiveling as it passes by.

It’s the first of its kind in the city and firefighters and officials are so impressed with its maneuverability, others will likely be purchased in the future, according to the report.

Deer Spring (CA) Fire Protection District Gets $8 Million for New Station

Firefighters with the Deer Spring (CA) Fire Protection District have been allocated $8 million for a new fire station along Interstate 15 north of Escondido, according to a report published by Times of San Diego.

Calfornia Assembly Member Marie Waldron helped secure the funds, according to the report, to help improve emergency response in the area which has grown significantly in population and businesses.

The district currently has three fire stations located in Escondido and San Marcos, according to the report.

4-alarm fire ravages building in Massachusetts

VIDEO: A four-alarm fire has torn through two mill buildings on Woronoco Road in Russell. Multiple fires at the vacant Strathmore buildings over the last several years prompted the State Fire Marshal’s office to offer a reward back in 2020. Fire officials told Western Mass News that they expect to be here until sunrise Wednesday, working to put out the fire and hot spots on the building which has completely collapsed.

Illinois firefighters take third place in world competition

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Members of the Springfield Fire Department (SFD) are competing on the world stage. Several local firefighters are at the World Police and Fire Games. According to the Springfield 37 Firefighters Union, first responders from more than 70 countries are competing in the games. Springfield's firefighters -- Captain Bryce McCormick, Captain Eric Jaeger, Captain Phil Johnson and Captain Kainan Rinaberger -- took home third place in the team's ultimate firefighter event.

University of Arizona, Tucson Fire Department research helps reclassify firefighters' cancer risk

Studies by University of Arizona Health Sciences, in collaboration with Tucson Fire Department, have helped provide evidence that occupational exposure does pose a cancer risk to firefighters. Findings from these studies contributed to a larger body of evidence that led the International Agency for Research on Cancer to reclassify firefighters' occupational exposure from "possibly carcinogenic" to "carcinogenic.
