The historic Veranda House Hotel on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, was damaged Saturday after a huge blaze ripped through the building.
Firefighters received a report that the hotel, which is more than 338 years old, was on fire early Saturday, the Nantucket Fire Department said in a news release.

A quick decision to break out a new drone may have saved a life at a June 17 fire scene.
Scott Wolfe was out to dinner with his family that Friday when he got a call about a fire at the MARS Horsecare facility in Dalton. Crews from multiple departments responded.
A drone with thermal imaging technology the Wooster Township Fire Department had acquired just days earlier was about to be thrust into service for the first time, and Wolfe was the only one on staff qualified to operate it.

Ford is expanding a recall of SUVs and telling owners to park them outside after a series of engine fires that can happen even when the ignition switches are off.
The company also announced Friday that it's recalling another 100,000 SUVs in the U.S. for a different problem that also causes engine fires.

When they’re not suppressing fires or responding to medical emergencies, the Myrtle Beach Fire Department, along with other Grand Strand first responders, can be found on the ice.
“It’s like being a kid out there,” said Ross Porter, an engineer and paramedic for the City of Myrtle Beach.
A group of about 25 make up the roster of the MBFD’s hockey team.
