Line-of-duty service, procession to be held for North Whatcom Fire and Rescue firefighter Leslee Smith

A line-of-duty memorial service will be held for North Whatcom Fire and Rescue firefighter Leslee Smith at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at the Blaine Performing Arts Center, 975 H Street in Blaine. The memorial will give Smith full honors for her years of commitment to the community. Smith died March 26 at the age of 69 after battling job-related liver cancer.

Crews battle fire on Herron Island, arson suspected

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Crews knocked down a massive structure fire on Herron Island early Wednesday morning, and investigators believe it was arson. At around 2:37 a.m., Key Peninsula Fire (KPF) announced that their crews, along with Gig Harbor firefighters, were responding to some sort of structure fire on the Island.

Man hospitalized, home damaged in Marysville explosion and fire

A man in his 30s was hospitalized following a house explosion and fire that occurred in Marysville Tuesday afternoon. The Marysville Fire District said the incident occurred in the area of the 2800 block of 81st Street NE. Firefighters, according to officials, responded to the fire with an explosion at a residence on the Tulalip Tribes Reservation just after 2:30 p.

New emergency response program rolls out in Spokane

A new program will connect Spokane 911 callers to new medical services starting today. Entitled the Spokane Nurse Navigation Program, 911 dispatchers will be able to direct calls that they deem non-emergency situations to a Nurse Navigator who can help callers access care. Fire Chief Julie O’Berg says that the program will be able to connect callers with local health clinics, urgent care facilities or virtual appointments with healthcare providers.

VIDEOS: Large fire engulfs vacant building in Georgia

A vacant building in northwest Atlanta caught fire late Monday afternoon, according to Atlanta fire officials. The fire was reported at 350 Troy St. NW, near Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW. First Alert Chopper captured scenes of the massive fire, including most of the flames being put out. Atlanta fire officials said crews launched a “defensive fire attack,” which officials said is for when fire conditions prevent firefighters from getting inside a building.
