West Carthage (NY) Station Fire Interrupts Voting

This vote is coming in hot!

A Champion fire station Tuesday afternoon caught fire, forcing the polling location to relocate its Primary Day voting spot, reports wwnytv.com.

West Carthage Fire Department officials say an electrical problem in the ceiling of its second station sparked things shortly after noon. One person was voting at the time, the report says.

Voting continued outdoors for a bit before it was moved next door, to the Town of Champion Highway Department building.

The equipment in the station wasn’t damaged, and no injuries were reported.

They Blue It! New Design on Saltillo (MS) Fire Department’s $560k 2022 Pierce Custom Pumper

The Saltillo Fire Department recently took delivery of a $560,000 2022 Pierce Sabre semi-custom pumper. And it boasts a new twist on its design: Saltillo blue.

See more pics here.

The paint job is a nod to the local high school and aims at supporting the community, reports djournal.com.

The new pumper replaces 20-year-old Engine 1, which had issues meeting re-certification guidelines, the report says. The successor has a tighter turning radius, larger pump, and can carry more hose than does its predecessor.

It also features a 450hp engine, modern technology, a foam system, and roll-up doors on nearly all of the outside storage compartments, according to the report. The city used its engine fund and a state grant to pay down around $175,000 on the pumper, while the rest will come via low-interest loan from the Mississippi Development Authority.

The predecessor underwent some repairs, passed recertification, and was sold to a TX department.

Families are invited to come along for jam-packed days full of fun and fire safety.

Firefighters across West Sussex are looking forward to throwing open their fire station doors and welcoming back local communities for the first time since 2019.

Throughout the summer, events are being held across the county and families are invited to come along for jam-packed days full of fun and fire safety, as well as getting a look behind-the-scenes at the fire service.

At each of the open days, firefighters will be running a series of practical displays as well as being on hand to provide fire and road safety advice and answer any questions that people may have.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Peter Rickard said: “Over the last two years we have held virtual open days for members of the public to watch on social media, but we have really missed being able to hold in-person events.

“We can’t wait to open the doors to some of our fire stations, meet with our local residents and really be at the center of these communities. We are determined to make up for lost time and hold the best open days to date, so they aren’t to be missed!”

The open days will be held at the following stations:

  • East Preston Fire Station: 16 July 2022, 10am until 4pm
  • Worthing Fire Station: 23 July 2022, 10am until 4pm
