Snohomish County says failing 911 system will cost $75 million to replace

Snohomish County officials say if immediate action to fix the system that allows dispatchers to talk to fire and police and for them to talk to each other - this is what will happen when you dial 911: “Unfortunately nothing,” said Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary. City and county fire, city leaders, and dispatchers called a meeting Thursday to urge the county council to address the 19-year-old Motorola radio system.

New Naches fire station bond brings hope to its volunteer firefighters

Next month, Yakima County voters will decide to pass or reject 10 propositions in a special election. 9 of those propositions are levies for local school districts. The last one is a bond, and its fate will affect anyone who uses Highway 12. Naches is a small town with barely 800 people. Right in the heart of it is Yakima County Fire Protection District #3, in a building that was never meant to be a fire station.

Celebration of life ceremony for Grant County firefighter Dan Dishon set for Saturday

The public is invited to a celebration of life ceremony Saturday for Grant County firefighter Dan Dishon. The ceremony starts at 1 p.m. at the DeVries Activity Center at Big Bend Community College. Dishon, 39, died Jan. 8 from injuries sustained in an industrial accident at Moses Lake Industries Dec.

'It was incredible': 4-year-old boy gets to meet Port Orchard firefighters who helped save him

A 4-year-old boy who was saved by his mother's and firefighters' CPR efforts got to meet the first responders who were there to help. "It was incredible," said mom Stephanie Lentell. "I underestimated the emotional impact facing these firefighters would have, but to be able to personally thank them and have them meet Michael was amazing.

Community rallies around Bridgeport family after fire

It was a little over a week ago that Bridgeport High School boys’ basketball coach Pat McFadden bustled through a burning home to save his fiancé’s 8-year-old son, Tommy. Both remained in Harborview Medical Center for treatment of burns Tuesday – McFadden in serious condition and Tommy, satisfactory.
