Couple escapes blaze but home lost near Port Townsend

A couple escaped their burning Port Townsend-area home Thursday morning as a blaze ripped through the house. Vancouver firefighters extinguish fire that damaged home's living room; occupant treated for minor injuries

Firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire Thursday morning on Northwest Bernie Drive in Vancouver that left the home’s occupant with minor injuries. Fire District 6 spokesman Dave Schmitke said the initial call for the fire came in at 9:37 a.m. at the 650o block of Northwest Bernie Drive. The agency responded with two engines, and Vancouver Fire Department deployed another to assist.

Snohomish County: Paine Field fire chief to retire after more questions about an old fire truck

Paine Field Fire Chief Jeff Bohnet gave notice Dec. 1, saying, “It is time for a new set of eyes in the fire department.” At the time, he was under a criminal investigation, according to records obtained by The Daily Herald. Detectives were looking into how the chief came into possession of a piece of an old Snohomish County fire truck.

Seattle: Worker dies after falling into Duwamish River

A worker has died after falling into the Duwamish River in South Seattle. Seattle firefighters were called to the scene off of East Marginal Way South at Dawson Street at 5 a.m. Thursday. The industrial area has businesses along the Duwamish Waterway. The victim fell into the water while working on a barge.

Montesano students learn fire fighting basics

Since the beginning of this school year the Montesano Fire Department has been running a fire cadet program in cooperation with the Montesano Junior/Senior High School. The program is in its first year and is open to high school juniors and seniors. Classroom work is held during the course of the week while participating students benefit from hands-on training in an all-day session one Saturday per month.
