New Marysville firefighters hired, others receive awards

The Marysville Fire District swore in seven new full-timers Wednesday and also gave out some awards. Firefighter/paramedic Joseph Kendrick joins after more than 10 years of experience. Firefighter/paramedic Hunter Day previously served as a firefighter in Arlington and elsewhere. Sean Anderson, Thomas Fitchett, Scott Cloudy, Katie Hereth and Michael Work are firefighters.

Vancouver's improved, modern Fire Stations 1 and 2 to open in January

Every detail of Vancouver’s new Fire Station 1 and 2 has been planned to increase efficiency and ensure the stations will better serve the community. “These stations are designed to meet our current and future service needs as well as address our diverse workforce safety and operational needs for the foreseeable future,” Vancouver Deputy Fire Chief Doug Koellermeier said.

Here's why you can't buy Christmas trees from Richland firefighters this year

For members of Richland’s firefighter union, Christmas is a little less joyful. Officials with Local 1052 said it would no longer sell Christmas trees as a community fundraiser. “We’re in a bit of a dull mood today,” officials said on Richland Fire & Emergency Services’ Facebook page when it announced the news.

The recent mass shootings at a church in Sugarland Springs, Texas and a country music concert in Las Vegas prove it can happen anywhere. “We know that something like this is going to happen sooner or later in one of our communities,” said Battalion Chief Douglas Knight with the Northshore Fire Department.

Man rescued after tumbling over 20-foot embankment in Olympia

A man who fell down a steep embankment is recovering after a dramatic rescue overnight in Olympia. The incident unfolded late Wednesday near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Cooper Point Road, the Olympia Fire Department says. A man lost his balance near the edge of a 20-foot retaining wall and plunged over the side.
