The Marysville Fire District swore in seven new full-timers Wednesday and also gave out some awards. Firefighter/paramedic Joseph Kendrick joins after more than 10 years of experience. Firefighter/paramedic Hunter Day previously served as a firefighter in Arlington and elsewhere. Sean Anderson, Thomas Fitchett, Scott Cloudy, Katie Hereth and Michael Work are firefighters.

For members of Richland’s firefighter union, Christmas is a little less joyful. Officials with Local 1052 said it would no longer sell Christmas trees as a community fundraiser. “We’re in a bit of a dull mood today,” officials said on Richland Fire & Emergency Services’ Facebook page when it announced the news.

A man who fell down a steep embankment is recovering after a dramatic rescue overnight in Olympia. The incident unfolded late Wednesday near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Cooper Point Road, the Olympia Fire Department says. A man lost his balance near the edge of a 20-foot retaining wall and plunged over the side.
