Former Clallam Fire District No. 2 chief, commissioner dies at age 95

Members of Clallam Fire District No. 2 are mourning the recent loss of one of their own, Chief Sam Phillips announced last week. William “Bill” Doran, who served the fire district for 51 years, died Oct. 31 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. The World War II veteran was 95. Services were Thursday.

Three-alarm fire destroys house in Gleed

A three-alarm fire Saturday afternoon destroyed a house on Eschbach Road in Gleed. No injuries were reported. Multiple fire districts responded to a structure fire near U.S. Highway 12. The first units were called around 5:30 p.m. before the second and third alarms were called. Firefighters had the fire under control around 7 p.

Firefighters knock down blaze at 9-unit apartment in Spokane

Spokane firefighters responded just after 1 p.m. Friday to a structure fire inside a nine-unit apartment building in Browne’s Addition. Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said the fire at 1730 W. Pacific Avenue likely started in the basement and extended to the building’s attic. “Everyone was evacuated. There were no injuries,” Schaeffer said.

Lacey Fire District 3’s Proposition 1 now looks like it’s going to pass

An updated ballot count Wednesday night shows that Lacey Fire District 3’s Proposition 1 now has a dramatically improved chance of passing, according to Thurston County Auditor data. After Tuesday night’s ballot count, Proposition 1 had enough support at 74.7 percent, but voter turnout was still too low.

Two people escape overnight condo fire in Edmonds

Two people suffered smoke inhalation after their condo unit caught fire late Wednesday night in Edmonds. Crews arrived at about 11:30 p.m. at 7510 208th St. SW to find a fire in a unit on the second floor of the condominium complex. Initial investigation showed the fire may have started in the kitchen, damaging the unit from both the flames and smoke.
