VIDEO: Junior Fire cadets in New Market were getting in one last training session Thursday evening before heading off to the Warren County Junior Firefighter Competition in North Carolina this weekend.
Market Junior Cadets are the reigning champions of the nationwide competition. It will be the first competition since 2019 after it was put on pause because of the pandemic.

Throughout the early centuries, fires would rage in growing wooden-structured urban communities across the United States.
Over the years, fire departments would begin with bucket brigades, pump, and eventually steam engines. But, as costly as fires are, the resources to fight them are as well. The Thibodaux Firemen’s Fair and Parade began both as revelry and a way to fund the fire department.

Firefighters had their hands full with a difficult and dangerous fire inside a seed silo in Spokane Valley overnight.
Spokane Valley firefighters were called to Spokane Seed on East Alki Avenue just after midnight on Friday for reports of a smoldering fire inside a multi-story storage silo.
The fire created a major risk for firefighters with dust that was extremely flammable and had the potential to explode.

After canceling deals with two other contractors who fell short of their obligations with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the federal government has inked an agreement through a surety with a new builder.
Through an agreement with the surety-Berkley Insurance Company-the insurer has selected J.S. Held LLC to coordinate the project efforts with National Native American Construction Inc.

A small-town high school softball team was quick to act, in more ways than one, when tragedy struck close to home.
The Selkirk High School softball team was in the middle of practice when freshman Mackenzie Zaren saw smoke from third base. The smoke was coming from a house across the street, owned by their science teacher and middle school coach Rachel Groves Wold.
