Jodie Carroll's childhood was a bit … unsettled. Born in Minneapolis, she and her mother moved with her entrepreneur father to Boston, then Georgia, then back to Minneapolis. At age 11, Carroll moved with her family to a farm near Onamia, Minn. Athletic, with a love of physical activity, Carroll found belonging in sports.

A new photography exhibit at the New York City Fire Museum puts family members of 9/11 first responders in front of the camera as a way to illustrate the continuing impact of the attacks. The exhibition, called “One Day in September,” features a series of profound, editorial-style portraits of first responders’ family members, created by renowned photographer Richard Wiesel.

An abandoned pizza restaurant in Lynnwood was completely destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning. Emergency crews responded to the fire at the abandoned Alfy's Pizza building, located on the 4800 block of 196th Street Southwest, around 1:30 a.m. The fire was under control by 2:15 a.m., according to a tweet from the Lynnwood Police Department.
