Crews respond to 2-alarm fire in Gig Harbor strip mall

Crews responded Tuesday to a two-alarm fire at a Gig Harbor strip mall that sent a column of smoke over the area. A spokesperson for the Gig Harbor Fire Department says the blaze was in a teriyaki restaurant in a strip mall in the 6800 block of Kimball Drive. Firefighters extinguished the flames, but the street is likely to remain closed for some time as crews mop up at the scene.

Small fire in Seattle condo leads to discovery of woman's body

Crews made a tragic discovery after responding to a small condo fire in Seattle's Wedgwood neighborhood overnight, officials said. An elderly woman was found dead inside the unit, but it wasn't immediately clear if her death was related to the fire. Crews from Wenatchee and Chelan County Fire District 1 respond to diesel spill

Quick work by a truck driver and emergency responders Monday afternoon prevented a spill downtown of about 20 gallons of diesel from becoming worse. Matt Klym, driver for Hicks Transportation of Albany, Oregon, was pulling his Peterbilt 18-wheeler out of the parking lot of cold-storage facility, Lineage Logistics, when one of the rig’s fuel tanks scraped a bump in the pavement and lost the tank’s drain plug.

911 center could separate from Cowlitz County

Cowlitz County 911 Center officials are considering separating from the county to speed up decision making and rid themselves of a widely criticized and cumbersome governing structure. Members of the 911 E-Board have agreed to hire a consultant to study the 911 center’s governing structure and also consider alternatives: user agencies’ switch to using Clark County’s 911 center (Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency, known as CRESA) or making the 911 agency independent from the county.

Snohomish County fire commissioner clarifies controversial comments

Three days after a videotape was released that shows two Snohomish County fire commissioners making controversial comments, David Chan is fighting back. "This is a character assassination.
