Battle Ground council looks to annex ‘islands’ of property

The city of Battle Ground is gearing up to address a number of “islands” of property that are unincorporated but mostly surrounded by city limits. During its March 21 meeting, the Battle Ground City Council discussed annexation procedures while looking specifically at six areas in the city’s urban growth area.

South King Fire and Rescue captain reflects on 50 years of dedicated service

For Capt. Tom Thorson of South King Fire and Rescue, 50 years of service holds many memories. Like hearing the sirens wail in the middle of the night, jumping on his 10-speed bike, and racing to the fire station as a volunteer during his teenage years. Or the time he became the youngest Emergency Medical Technician in Washington state in the 1970s.

2 rescued after suffering burns from Hazel Dell house fire

Two people were rescued from a house fire in Hazel Dell early Sunday morning, according to Clark County Fire District 6. Fire officials said they responded to a home on Northeast 80th Street where a two-story house was fully engulfed with flames. They learned that a man and woman inside the home were awakened by their smoke alarm.

Deputy Chief John Nankervis retires from Shoreline Fire after a 36 year service career

On March 31, Deputy Chief John Nankervis will work his last day after a 36-year fire service career. John’s love of the fire service began at the age of 15 when he joined the Seattle Fire Department’s Explorer Program where he spent five years learning about the firefighting trade. He credits much of his success to the Explorer Program, and values the men and women who provided guidance during his formative years.

Merrill (WI) Ambulance Involved in Crash Responding to Call

A Merrill Fire Department ambulance was involved in an accident Friday while responding to a call. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

No serious injuries occurred and no patients were in the ambulance at the time of the crash. Another unit was dispatched to handle the medical call.
