A head-on collision Saturday between a sedan and a Lorain Fire Department apparatus left a man dead, reports morningjournal.com.

The fire truck, which had its emergency lights and sirens activated, was carrying two firefighters when the impact occurred, the report says; they were shaken up but not injured.

Police officials are investigating the accident.

The North Oakland VFW Post 334 delivered a $5,000 check to the Oxford Fire Department at its Station 1 earlier this month to support the department’s new “Safety Begins at Home” initiative. It was one of many donations the department received.

The program’s aim is distributing and installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, pro bono, in Oxford Township and Village, with a focus on the 55 and older crew, individuals with disabilities, and low-income earners.

Part of a $3.4 million project to revitalize the city, the Jacksonville Fire Museum Sunday was loaded onto a truck bed and sent to its new home at 620 E. Bay St., reports firstcoastnews.com.

Workers dug out the tires and machines laid down concrete-like slabs to guide the path.

The new location lies less than a mile from where it was originally built in 1902, when it served as Fire Station 3. The report notes that, at that time, most of downtown Jacksonville was rebuilding from the Great Fire of 1901. It was first moved back in the ‘60s, then in the ‘70s it moved to metropolitan park, and now it’s back to where it started, the report says.

The museum was closed about six years ago for renovations, but now it’s getting ready to get back at it. Officials anticipate it opening in the next year.
