Everett fire chief plans to retire after 40 years of service

Murray Gordon grew up on the hill near Forest Park. It was a neighborhood where kids sledded in the snow and deer darted through the backyard. His parents, a dairy products salesman and a dietician, often repeated time-old sayings. One favorite was, “If you’re going to do something, do it right.” Another one was finish what you start.

Snohomish County Fire District 3 and Fire District 7 finish merger

Snohomish County Fire District 3 in Monroe will soon be gone. As of Saturday, the district will be merged permanently into Fire District 7, based in Clearview. The two agencies have combined firefighters, administrations and budgets. New decals and uniform patches are in the works, spokeswoman Heather Chadwick said.

Waste Management driver dumps load of flaming cardboard in Spokane Valley area

A recyclable truck driver for Waste Management was forced to ditch a load of cardboard after it caught fire inside the truck Wednesday. The dramatic video was taken in a gravel lot at Kenworth Sales. According to Waste Management, the truck driver was collecting cardboard in the Spokane Valley area when he noticed a fire in the rear of his truck.

Vancouver Fire Marshal's Office awarded $142K FEMA grant

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office was awarded a $142,753 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to promote fire safety. The funds from the Fire Prevention and Safety grant will go toward the agency’s Project HomeSafe campaign, which aims at reducing the frequency and severity of residential fires through education and outreach.

2 men airlifted after rollover crash splits pickup in half in Centralia

Two men are hospitalized in serious condition Thursday after their truck rolled over an embankment and nearly split in half. Police and medics responded to the scene, near North Gold Street and Ham Hill Road in Centralia, just before 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a rollover crash. Responders found that a pickup had rolled more than 20 feet down an embankment.
