Flag Lowering

Governor Inslee hereby directs that Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff on Monday, May 30, 2016, in recognition of Memorial Day. This federal holiday is in remembrance of the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces.

The Governor’s Office has no objection to agencies lowering the flags at the close of business on Friday, May 27, 2016. Flags should remain at half-staff until noon on May 30 or first thing Tuesday morning, May 31, 2016.

Please notify all of your field offices and facilities around the state.

Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.

3-alarm church fire in Hazel Dell: 'We were worried it was gonna come down on us'

Firefighters worked through the early morning hours Wednesday to put out a three-alarm fire at a Hazel Dell church. No one was hurt in the fire at First Congregational United Church of Christ, fire officials said. Crews were called out 3 a.m. on reports of a fire outside the church. Clark County Fire spokesperson Dave Schmitke said the flames quickly spread up the west side of the building, prompting them to bump it to a three-alarm fire.

Driver flees after crash sparks fire in Redmond

State troopers are trying to track down the driver of a car that crashed into a ditch and ignited a fire overnight in Redmond. The Washington State Patrol says the car was heading west on Highway 202 just after midnight Wednesday when it veered off the road and slammed into a tree before landing in a ditch near 224th Avenue NE.
