Great Bend (KS) Fire Department to Finally Get New Apparatus

City council Monday approved the purchase of a new truck for the Great Bend (KS) Fire Department, reports gbtribune.com.

During a May 17 council meeting, Marmie Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Great Bend was awarded the bid for a new Dodge Ram 5500 apparatus for $78,864, the report says. Its delivery was projected for 2021’s last quarter.

However, the department was notified that Dodge decided not to provide the government pricing on the truck. In addition to a shortage of microchips and other supply chain issues, this thwarted the order, according to the report.

Now, the truck will cost the city $84,828, with the dealer covering what would have been paid by the government discount, the report says. It’s expected to be ordered this week, and city officials hope the price holds. Dealership reps were at Monday’s meeting and said that the dealership can’t guarantee the purchase price until the delivery due to market conditions.

The apparatus will be used to pull the 32-foot Tech Rescue trailer and a Rescue One connector boat with a boat trailer, the report says.

McDonough (GA) Fire Department Getting New Pumper, Ladder for $1.7M

City council recently approved the McDonough Fire Department’s request to purchase new ladder and pumper trucks for a total cost of $1.7 million, reports henryherald.com.

The apparatus, which will be paid for using Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax V funds, will replace a 22-year-old pumper and an 18-year-old ladder, respectively, the report says.

Ten-8 Fire & Safety LLC of Forsyth will assemble the apparatus, which are expected to be ready in 12 to 15 months, according to the report.

By prepaying for the equipment prior to delivery, the city will save $58,454; it will save an additional $127,000 if contracts are John Hancock’d by January 29. Prepaying for equipment is a first for the department, but it’s a common practice in the industry, according to the report.

The department’s current two trucks will remain in the fleet until the new apparatus arrive, at which point they’ll be reserves.
