65 firefighters from Australia, New Zealand arrive in Northwest to help fight region’s wildfires

A contingent of 65 senior firefighters from Australia and New Zealand has arrived in the Pacific Northwest to assist in combating the region’s large wildfires. After receiving briefings at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, the firefighters were assigned to various large wildfire incidents across the Northwest, including the Willamette Complex South on the Willamette National Forest and the Pioneer Fire on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.

Hazardous truck fire that caused I-15 shutdown in California 'first' in the U.S., CalTrans says

VIDEO: The truck fire that caused the days-long shutdown of the I-15 was the first of its kind in the nation, according to highway agency CalTrans, which led to an unprecedented response for removal of hazardous materials. July 26, California Highway Patrol officials said a tanker carrying “lithium iron” caught fire north of Baker on I-15, leading to a virtual shutdown of the freeway for almost two days.

Iowa fire department set to receive award from U.S. Department of Defense

VIDEO: In late August, the Council Bluffs Fire Department will be recognized in Washington at the Pentagon for their support of National Guard and Army Reserve members. The award is the highest U.S. government honor for employers supporting current and former service members. The Council Bluffs Fire Department is one of 15 recipients of the 2024 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, being selected from over 17,000 nominations from employers across all 50 states.

TikTok candy melting trend sends Pennsylvania boy to hospital

When a 9-year-old Fayette County boy attempted to follow a TikTok trend, creating what is known as a Jolly Rancher Grape, he tripped while carrying a bowl of molten candy liquid and suffered severe burns. “He tripped, and that’s when the boiling hot candy coated his whole hand and his four fingers except his thumb,” his mother, Christina Blackstone, said of her son, Caidan.

2 drivers killed in fiery high-speed car crash in Pierce County

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Two drivers are dead after a high-speed crash left both vehicles engulfed in flames on Wednesday. Just after midnight, Pierce County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a two-vehicle collision at Canyon Road East and 160th Street. When authorities arrived at the scene both vehicles were completely covered in flames.
