Crews rescue two people after car goes over embankment in Tacoma

A team with Tacoma Fire rescued two people from a vehicle that drove off a steep embankment in the 6600 block of Marinera Street Tuesday afternoon. One person was safely raised to the street by 4:30 p.m. The second was raised to the road just before 5 p.m. Neither was seriously injured, according to Tacoma Fire.

State Representative Introduces Proposal to Create Grant Program for Rural Fire Departments

Legislation sponsored by Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, and Rep. Dan Griffey, R-Allyn, would provide a new grant funding source for rural fire departments whose buildings and equipment are inadequate to meet the fire safety needs of their communities. House Bill 1929 would establish a competitive grant program under the state Department of Commerce to award funding of up to $2 million to local governments in rural counties for capital projects that would improve fire protection services.

COVID-19 two years later: First US case reported in Washington state

This week marks two years since COVID-19 changed lives in Washington State, across the country and throughout the world. On Jan. 19, 2020, a Snohomish County man in his 30s went to an urgent care clinic with symptoms of pneumonia and was taken to Everett's Providence Regional Medical Center to be treated.

Update: Large fire that damaged 5 buildings in Olympia deemed arson

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Investigators determined that a large fire that damaged five buildings in downtown Olympia back in December was arson. Crews responded to a report of a commercial fire around 5:00 a.m. at 302 Capitol Way North on Dec. 15. The building was a 5-story residential project that was still under construction.

DNR study details the Big One tsunami impacts for Washington coast

A new study from Washington’s Department of Natural Resources estimates a 10-17% chance that the Big One could happen in the next 50 years. While coastal cities in Washington were frightened by the tsunami advisory from the Tonga volcano eruption, they fortunately only experienced slightly larger waves.
