New York county launches program to assist emergency responders

A new Oneida County program will better prepare first responders for emergency situations involving people with special needs. The Assistance for Special, Cognitive, Emotional Needs and Disabilities (ASCEND) program will allow people to voluntarily register their disability or condition with the county so emergency workers will be notified of the circumstances during an emergency call.

Kennewick Restaurant Damaged By Fire

Kennewick Fire investigators did not say where the initial report came from. From a report on Twitter, Kennewick Fire Chief Chad Michael said crews were sent to the Double Dragon Chinese Restaurant at 3107 West Clearwater around 3:20 AM Tuesday morning after a call about of a fire. Upon arrival crews reportedly could see flames inside the building.

Prince Edward County (Ontario) Fire & Rescue Donates Apparatus, Equipment to First Nation Community

Prince Edward County (Canada) has donated surplus fire equipment and apparatus–including a pumper tanker, positive pressure fan, and gear–to Firefighters Without Borders Canada.

The nonprofit organization plans to provide the donations to the Summer Beaver Band, a First Nation community in Northern Ontario.

Six Nashville (TN) Fire Stations Lose Power; Crews Still Respond to Calls

On the heels of Saturday morning’s storm, six Nashville (TN) fire stations were without power.

Stations 34, 27, 10, 6, 4, and 1—on top of all the residential areas—were affected.

New Deal (TX) Fire & EMS Apparatus Destroyed in Station Fire; ‘Could Have Been Much Worse’

New Deal (TX) Fire & EMS had one of its apparatus catch fire at the station around 9 a.m. Friday morning, and officials say Rescue 2 is a total loss.

“Fire was limited to the Cab portion of Rescue 2 and Minor damage to some insulation on the station. This could have been much worse,” the department says on Facebook.

The department says all of Rescue 2’s equipment has been moved to Engine 2, and the department’s response times won’t be affected.

“We have had offers for assistance from so many other departments as well as offers from Supporters of our department.”
