Effort underway to have fallen firefighter listed as New York county’s first Line of Duty Death

Thomas Pomplin was 28 when he died from the effects of overheating and exhaustion from fighting the Storm’s Cedar Tub and Pail Factory fire in Nyack in July 1854. He died eight days later. It is believed that he was the first line of duty death of a firefighter in Rockland County, but because he was black, that designation never happened.

New goal set for emergency responders to clear crashes off Missouri highways

Emergency response agencies across Missouri now have a goal of clearing an accident scene on state highways in less than 90 minutes. A handful of other states already have something similar in place, like Washington, Florida, and Tennessee. The goal is to have the roadway clear 90 minutes after a first responder arrives on the scene.

Sunnyside Firefighters compete for the best and worst mustache title

The Sunnyside Firefighters challenged Fire District 5 to a mustache off this no shave November to promote men's health. The firefighters have all chipped in money and the winners of the best and worst mustache will get to donate that money to the charity of their choice which promotes men's health. Anthony Oaks a firefighter with Fire District 5 says this is the first time he has grown out his mustache so it's come with some complications.

Olympia couple dies in house fire

Two people are dead after a fire broke out inside an Olympia home Friday morning. Olympia firefighters and crews from the McLane Black Lake Fire Department were called to the home in the area of French Road Northwest at 2:16 a.m. The fire was reported by a neighbor who investigated after he heard what he believed to be the sound of breaking glass.
