Firefighters save historic home on Old Highway 99 in Thurston County

Firefighters knocked down a fire at a landmark Thurston County home at the corner of Old Highway 99 and Waldrick Road on Monday. East Olympia Fire District 6 responded to the fire at about 9 a.m. and knocked it down in about 15-20 minutes, deputy chief of operations Mike Calhoun said. The blaze caused extensive but not fatal damage to the historic, blue home, locally known as the French Café.

Multi-car crash leaves one dead in Yakima County

Three cars were involved in a fatal car accident just this morning along McCormick Road and Highway 12., leaving one dead. According to Washington State Patrol, 59-year-old Cary Henning was driving southbound on McCormick Rd. at SR 12, while 22-year-old Carlos Sanchez Martinez was headed westbound on SR 12 at McCormick Rd.

New Fire Station Proposed for Buffalo (NY)

The City of Buffalo wants to build a new fire station to replace an aging facility, reports Buffalo News.

Plans for the $6 million project by Stieglitz Snyder Architecture call for demolishing the one-story brick building and constructing a 17,495-square-foot station.

The new facility woud include a one-story garage and apparatus room with four bays and overhead doors. A back section would feature a dormitory and locker room.

Springwater Township (Canada) Welcomes Fire Apparatus

Springwater Fire & Emergency Services has taken delivery of its new pumper/tanker fire truck.

The truck was purchased through Commercial Emergency Equipment Co., in Woodstock, Ont., and built by Maxi-Metal Inc. in Saint-Georges, Que. The 2021 Pierce Saber Custom Cab seats six firefighters and is equipped with a Waterous fire pump rated for 6,000 litres per minute. The truck also has a 6,750-litre water tank, as well as an on-board foam system.

Other features include a 10-inch swivel stainless steel dump valve, electric over hydraulic portable tank and ladder storage rack, along with electric over hydraulic hose bed covers and LED emergency and scene lighting.

“On behalf of Springwater Fire & Emergency Services I would like to thank Springwater council for their continued support of the fire department,” says Fire Chief Jeff Kirk. “The new truck will ensure we are able to provide outstanding fire protection services to the current and future residents of Springwater.”

The new truck has been assigned to Fire Station No. 5 in Elmvale and will replace two aging fire apparatus.

Several Spokane firefighters out of a job over vaccine mandate

Several Spokane firefighters are out of a job following Monday’s deadline to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The city has not announced the exact number of those who will be fired from their positions but said 52 firefighters filed for exemptions from the mandate. Of those, 14 ended up withdrawing those requests and seven people had until 5 p.
