A man accused as part of a tree-poaching ring suspected of illegally harvesting maple trees in Olympic National Forest has been sentenced. The group’s activities led to a massive forest fire in 2018. Andrew Wilke, 39, was convicted in July of conspiracy, theft of public property, depredation of public property, trafficking in unlawfully harvested timber and attempting to traffic in unlawfully harvested timber.

Searchers looking for Seattle Deputy Fire Chief Jay Schreckengost got a break from the weather Tuesday. While weather forecasts called for up to 6 inches of snow in the area near Cliffdell where searchers are looking for the 56-year-old hunter, there was only 2.5 inches, said Kittitas County Sheriff’s Inspector Chris Whitsett.

Decatur (IL) Fire Rescue has announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Friday from 11 a.m. until noon for its new Station 3.

Station 3, located at 855 N. Fairview Ave., is the second of three planned new Decatur facilities—Station 5 opened in March 2020 and Station 7 is set to open in 2022.

Andover (MA) Fire Rescue will officially open the BallardVale Fire Station on Wednesday with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.

The new station, located at 161 Andover St., will be dedicated to former Fire Chief and Selectman William T. Downs, the town said. The old station was more than 120 years old.
