Illinois moves toward phaseout of firefighting foam with harmful ‘forever chemicals’

Illinois will take a first step toward reducing the use of firefighting foam containing harmful “forever chemicals” under a bill signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker Friday. The measure aims to curb the use of one source of PFAS chemicals that are tied to a host of health threats, largely through a limitation on using the foam for anything other than emergencies.

King County: Fire near Southcenter Mall sparks huge response

Crews from all around south King County responded to a commercial fire early Tuesday near Southcenter Mall. The blaze broke out in the 17200 block of Southcenter Parkway at around 1 a.m. Several businesses are located in the area, including a Nordstrom Rack and a Petco store. Crews have now extinguished the fire and are checking the damaged area for any hot spots.

More crews arrive at Schneider Springs fire near Nile, preparing for hotter temps

The Schneider Springs fire near Nile has burned about 4,652 acres, and remains zero percent contained. From highway 410, you can see some smoke in the air. The fire is tucked into the woods, still about four miles away from the nearest home, officials say. Crews are taking advantage of today's favorable weather conditions.

Newburg VFD (PA) Fire Apparatus in Crash Responding to Call

A Newburg Volunteer Fire Department was en route to a call when it was involved in an accident, reports CBS WTAJ.

The van tipped over and the passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

The Altoona Police Department is investigating the crash.
