Firefighter says Florida law helps him in fight with rare cancer

31-year-old Clay Geiger of Lakeland understands the risks of a firefighter but he never imagined a rare cancer would put his life on the brink and a state law would help him pay for the medical treatments to fight it. “I didn’t have to worry about bills and mortgage and everything like that,” he said,”I was able to just focus on treatment and getting through it.

Raging fire claims Yakima home and threatens neighboring houses

After receiving multiple calls from fearful neighbors, fire crews from across Yakima converged on the 600-block of N 20th Ave to combat a fully-involved structure fire on Tuesday night. According to the Yakima Fire Department (YFD), firefighters were called to the residence at 9:32 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

Moses Lake City Council votes to find accommodations for unvaccinated firefighters

Firefighters in Moses Lake with vaccine exemptions will be able to get back on the frontlines. On Tuesday, the union that represents the city’s firefighters, Moses Lake Firefighters IAFF Local 1258, said the Moses Lake City Council voted 4-3 to approve accommodations for its members. The Moses Lake Fire Department has 33 firefighters.

Spokane kitchen fire forces River Park Square to evacuate

Shoppers, diners and moviegoers at River Park Square Tuesday night had to evacuate because of a fire in a kitchen. The Spokane Fire Department said there was light smoke coming from the Panda Express at the mall. Firefighters said they were able to put it out quickly. However, people in the area were asked to evacuate just to stay on the safe side.

Update: Man arrested in connection to arson attack on the Islamic Center of Tacoma

A suspect has been arrested by Pierce County detectives in connection to the arson at the Islamic Center of Tacoma. The 38-year-old man was taken into custody on Tuesday the 26th following multiple tips given by the community. The suspect has not been identified at this time, but deputies confirmed he has been booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first degree arson.
