Spokane County to pause federal emergency alerts as location glitches persist

It’s a common occurrence over the past few months: Phones suddenly light up and a siren blares, indicating there’s some kind of emergency nearby. But the problem is, the emergency isn’t necessarily nearby. First responders in Spokane County have made increased requests to use the Spokane County Emergency Management alert systems, but glitches in the federal system that allows alerts to be geographically targeted to people’s cellphones have caused confusion.

Shreveport (LA) Fire Truck Catches Fire

An engine fire in a Shreveport (LA) fire truck caused no damage to the fire station, but did put the truck out of service, according to a report broadcast by KSLA 12.

The television station reported that the fire, which broke out on Friday, started from the engine and there were no injuries.

The station will be out of service until a reserve engine if found and put to use, the television station reported.

Driver killed after tanker truck falls off I-595 ramp in Florida, explodes

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The driver of a fuel tanker truck was killed after, authorities said, the vehicle fell off a ramp on Interstate 595 in Davie and exploded. Florida Highway Patrol and Davie Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the crash near the Florida Turnpike, at around 3:45 p.m., Sunday. Investigators said the driver was heading westbound when he struck the concrete wall on the right shoulder and flipped over.
