Falmouth (MA) Seeks Residents to Serve on Fire Station Building Committee

Members of the Falmouth (MA) select board are seeking residents to serve on a committee to build a new fire station.

According to a report published by The Falmouth Enterprise, the select board has already chosen seven of the 11 candidates. Committee candidates should have experience in the building procurement and construction or have firsthand knowledge and its needs.

According to the newspaper report, each of the selected candidates submitted resumes, references and explained their interest in serving to the select board.

Falmouth has a good track record with citizen advisory committees which most recently involved with the community’s senior center which was completed on time and under budget, the newspaper reported.

At a town meeting in April voters approved construction of a new fire station near the George Gaspa Sports Complex, the paper reported. Further, the committee is charged with working with the project manager, the architect, town manager, fire chief and the finance director to oversee the design and construction of the station.

A Reno (NV) Fire Truck Collided with a Car

A motorist suffered minor injuries in a crash that involved a Reno (NV) fire truck, according to a report broadcast by News2.

No firefighters were hurt in the crash, according to the television station. The station further reported that the collision happened at the intersection of Loise and Mill streets, station reported.

The investigation is being conducted by the Washoe County Sheriff’s office, News 2 reported.

Barnegat (NJ) Firefighters Seek Funds for New Engine

Firefighters with the Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Company are fundraising to help pay for a new fire engine the department recently received.

According to a report published by The Sand Paper, the cost of the new engine was higher because of new standards and regulations and the department needs more help to cover the $525,000 price tag.

Firefighters have been selling shirts and hats and the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Barnegat Light Fire Company is planning an annual auction, since some of the COVID-19 restrictions have been relaxed, the paper said.

Additionally, the department has sent out two letters of appeal to residents and businesses seeking funds to offset the cost, the newspaper reported.

The firefighters are also hoping the sale of the 21-year-old truck it replaces will help cover the cost of some of the cost to equip the new engine, the paper reported.

Shreveport (LA) Invests $1.6M in Three New Fire Engines

The Shreveport (LA) Fire Department recently received three new engines at a cost of $1.6 million.

According to an article published by the Shreveport Times, the engines where delivered on Tuesday and are equipped with the latest equipment, including active air purification systems. The apparatus will be replacing units that date back to 1987 and 1989.

The purchase of the engines will help keep all the city’s fire stations open, the paper reported.

City officials are saying the purchase of the new engines is part of an initiative to end gun violence in Shreveport and make the city a safer place, the paper reported.

Crews battle large fire at Christmas tree farm near Auburn

PHOTO: A fire at a Christmas tree farm near Auburn is sending clouds of smoke and steam over the area Thursday morning. Firefighters responded to the scene, Pfaff’s Christmas Tree Farm in the 12100 block of SE 292nd Street, at about 4:30 a.m. after receiving 911 calls about the fire. They found that fire had erupted in a large landscaping debris pile.
