The Franklin (TN) Fire Department yesterday held a grand opening for its $6.6 million Station 7, reports williamsonhomepage.com.

The state-of-the-art Station 7 replaces the temporary Station 7, which was established in 2014 after a fatal gasoline tanker explosion destroyed the Goose Creek Bypass-Peytonsville Road bridge and access to the east side of I-65.

The new digs is also home to an ambulance wing, a first for a Franklin station, which was funded by the county and staffed by Williamson Medical Center EMS personnel.

In addition to celebrating Station 7, the shindig honored retired Assistant Fire Chief John Fitzgerald and his family. Station 7 is located at 1972 John Fitzgerald Dr., marking the year that Fitzgerald, the department’s first African American assistant fire chief, began his service to the city.

In partnership with the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), Nationwide is awarding 48 fire departments across the country life-saving grain rescue tubes and hands-on training, reports agriculture.com.

VIDEO: Firefighters battled high temperatures as they fought to extinguish a large, seven-alarm house fire in Revere Tuesday evening. Crews were called to the scene on Hyde Street where smoke and flames could be seen pouring out of the top of the home. The back side of the structure was charred. At least one other home caught fire due to constantly changing wind directions.
