Fire crews in Tukwila are still monitoring a fire at an apartment complex that left three dead and dozens of others displaced. But as the last few hot spots were being put out Wednesday, some are wondering how the fire could’ve gotten so bad in the first place. “Why didn’t this building have fire sprinklers?” Tukwila Fire Chief Jay Wittwer asked.

On Thursday, August 19, fire officials provided an update on the Lick Creek Fire located 20 miles southwest of Clarkston and Green Ridge Fire located 30 miles east of Walla Walla. According to the update, containment of the Green Ridge Fire continues to slowly improve, and the fire is now considered 29% contained.

Central Washington University public health professors and students are moving into the second year of a research project looking at how poor air quality during wildfire season might affect the spread of COVID-19 in Yakima County. “We’re really looking at the human behavior aspect in this pandemic and how easy or difficult it might be for people to continue to do COVID-19 prevention when air quality presents the challenge that it does,” Associate Professor Tishra Beeson said.

Pooler City Council voted to approve funds for the fire station, reports WTOC 11.

The new location help keep those nearby residents safe and help lower taxes.

With the addition of Fire Station 5, Pooler will have added four new stations since 2008.

The opening of a new Collier County fire station has been delayed as a number of firefighters became infected with COVID-19, reports WINK News.

The new fire station is a collaboration between the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District and Collier County EMS. Greater Naples Fire Chief Nolan Sapp said he’s waiting on funds to hire more firefighters to staff the new station.
