Crews responded to an apartment fire Tuesday morning in east Lakewood. Firefighters were able to stop an apartment fire before it took down an entire building. The Everett Fire Department (EFD) said it was called to the fire at Silver Point Apartments in the 12000 block of 19th Ave. SE Monday night. The caller said the fire was in a third-floor apartment. Smoke was coming out of the third-floor unit in the E-building when crews arrived, they soon contained and took out the fire, thanks in part to the building sprinkler system.

City officials recently approved the purchase—not to exceed $548,502—of a new Sutphen custom pumper for Springfield (OH) Fire Rescue, reports springfieldnewssun.com.

The new apparatus, which will replace one that’s nearly 30 years old, will take at least 23 months to build and will be housed at one of the three future stations, the report says. The three new stations will be at South Limestone Street, Burt Street, and an undetermined location.

The predecessor is a 28-year-old apparatus currently housed at the Selma Road station, the report says. One of the three new facilities will replace the Selma Road station.

Mount Airy (NC) officials are taking out a loan to purchase a $561,720 2022 engine from Atlantic Coast Fire Trucks, despite sitting on available funds, reports mtairynews.com.

They’re taking the loan road because the municipality has identified $11.6 million worth of looming big-ticket items that could wipe out their savings, the report says.

The agreement says the city will borrow the money for a period of 10 years at a fixed rate of 2.31%, with the first payment to occur October 1 and continue on that day for the duration of the pact; the interest will total $69,740, according to the report, and the lender is REV Financial Services.

The Mount Airy Fire Department is expected to take delivery of the apparatus in February. The department has a mostly aging fleet which includes two 1995 Sutphen trucks and a 2000 American LaFrance.

Detectives are working with fire officials to determine the cause of an early Saturday morning fire that killed three people in Rainier, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. About 1:20 a.m. Saturday, fire crews were dispatched to the 16100 block of Village Drive Southeast in Rainier. They arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.
