A recreational vehicle caught fire Wednesday afternoon in the heart of Leavenworth, and tied up traffic on Highway 2 for more than an hour. Chelan County Fire District 3 says they were called shortly after 3 p.m. to extinguish the westbound vehicle, which stopped near the highway intersection with Ninth Street.

Crews are working to control a brush fire Thursday afternoon on forest service land near North Bend. At about 1 p.m. Eastside Fire and Rescue crews started working on the three-alarm fire. Officials said no homes were threatened since there are no homes in the area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A location has been selected and construction of a new fire station is expected to be underway in the fall, reports WANE 15.

The location was picked for several reasons, including a bigger lot that will allow trucks to pull in easier. The location is also away from schools, which neighbor the current station.<

A Hendersonville fire station received a SHARP certification through OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), reports ABC 13 News.

The program recognizes small business employers who have used OSHA’s On-Site Consultation Program services and operate exemplary safety and health programs.

There are no other SHARP worksites in Henderson, Polk or Transylvania counties, and only one in Buncombe County.
