Bagley (AL) Vol. Fire Dept. Gets New Second Station

Work has begun on the second Bagley Fire Station in Dora, AL. The new station is expected to lower insurance costs for homeowners, according to the Daily Mountain Eagle newspaper.

The Bagley Volunteer Fire Department started in 1985 in Walker County with its headquarters in Jefferson County, according to the newspaper, that added Bagley volunteers handle about 600 calls in the area each year and respond to up to 30 mutual aid calls into Dora and nearby Sumiton annually.

The second station will be a 40-foot Butler-style building with a price tag of up to $70,000, the newspaper reported. Some $32,000 is being funded with a grant from Jefferson County Service Committee and the Jefferson County Commission offered $20,000 and the department has about $10,000 of its own funds to put to the project, the newspaper reported.

The new station, which will operate like a substation and house an engine and a rescue, the newspaper reported. A third station near the Bagley school is being considered with a timeline of about three years, according to the newspaper, noting the department already has a piece of land for the station.

The Bagley department currently has an ISO rating of Class 4 and the new station should give the department a Class 3 by 2023, according to the newspaper, saving insurance premiums for home owners.

Atwater (CA) Gets New Fire Pumper

A new engine was delivered to the City of Atwater on Monday and the community turned out an unveiling and “push in” activities, according to Fox 26 News.

The New 2020 Rosenbauer, with a classic red and black finish, was the first new engine Station 41 had received since 2015, reported Fox26News.

The “push in” event is a tribute to the days of horse drawn fire pumpers that had to be physically pushed back into the station because horses could not backup easily and they were unharnessed from the engines when the apparatus was rehoused.

The engine was pressed into service shortly after being put in service responding to a medical call, the television station reported.
