Construction of New Onset (MA) Fire Station Nearly Complete

Construction of the new Onset (MA) fire station is nearly complete, as officials are set to sign off on its substantial completion as early as this week, reports wareham.theweektoday.com. Once they sign off, the department can begin moving in.

The station, located at 8 Sand Pond Rd. behind the old Salvation Army, will then still need its utilities set up and equipment and furniture moved in, but soon thereafter the crew can begin operating from it.

Tentative plans call for a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony the first week of August. Original plans said April, but the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into those plans.

Dexter (NY) Volunteer Fire Department Raising Money for 1929 Brockway’s Final Home

A 1929 Brockway Truck—an original Dexter (NY) Fire Department apparatus—was on full display Sunday to raise money for its final home, the Last Station, reports wwnytv.com. Other festivities from this weekend included the dedication of a bell from the 1800s, and fundraising efforts included selling hotdogs, popcorn, buttons, and t-shirts.

Officials say it’s going to cost around $100,000 to build the Last Station; as of Sunday, they surpassed $13,000. If all goes according to plan, they’ll break ground next year. More info can be found on the Dexter Volunteer Fire Department’s website.

Officials add that the Last Station will be built next door to the Dexter Historical Society and will serve as a final resting place for the Brockway. The goal is to turn it into a museum to honor the station’s history; memorabilia such as nozzles, helmets, coats, and boots will be on display, including the station’s hand pumper from 1865.
