Coast Central (CA) Credit Union has announced $100,000 in grants—with $36,561 going toward the purchase of station and emergency equipment—that will be given to 15 organizations based in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties, reports times-standard.com.

Humboldt County recipients include:

• $12,500 to the Briceland Volunteer Fire Department for garage doors for its new fire station.
• $7,000 for the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department for CPR equipment replacement
• $4,500 for the Arcata Volunteer Fire Department for wildland gear replacement.
• $2,925 for the Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department for emergency medical equipment and training.

Trinity County recipients include

• $9,636 for the Junction City Fire Protection District for defibrillator equipment replacement.

The Barnett Street Fire Station in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is about 90% complete, reports jis.gov.jm.

Officials said that some finishing touches are being added and, despite delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the aim is for an end-of-June/early July completion.

The construction costs $550 million, and officials noted that, so far, the project is within budget.

Olympia Firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire at 620 Legion Way SE at 2:14 AM on May 1, 2021. The first engine arrived 2 minutes later to find fire on the exterior of the building. The fire was fully extinguished at 2:36 with minor extension inside the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation and at this time there is no estimate on the total losses to the business.

VIDEO: At least 15 buildings in Gary, Indiana were on fire overnight, forcing firefighters to call backup.
