John Capozzoli Jr. of Freeport remembers the moment he knew he was destined to join the fire service. He was 12 years old and riding shotgun in his father’s pickup when the Freeport Fire Department sounded its air horn. As he and his father pulled into the firehouse, he recalled the excitement he felt as he watched his father, a volunteer firefighter, don a thick bunker coat and helmet and climb aboard the fire truck.

VIDEOS: For Kimberly Pillman and Ryle Olsen it is about helping others during an emergency and serving the community they call home.
Pillman and Olsen are two of the 10 female firefighters/paramedics who currently work for the Lake Geneva Fire Department.
Pillman said she considers it an honor to be a member of the fire department, as she is able to help people during a difficult situation.

One person is dead, and four others were hurt after a fire broke out at a house in the Renton Highlands overnight.
Fire officials said a large amount of ammunition was stored in the home.
Firefighters from Renton Regional Fire Authority were called to the home on Queen Place Northeast and Northeast Fifth Street at 2:15 a.

The Vancouver Fire Department responded to two commercial fires overnight and the firefighters’ efforts saved both buildings. The first business saved was MAACO, located at 2735 NE Andreesen. The second business saved was Jay’s Stop and Go at 5620 NE Gher Rd.
Vancouver firefighters responded to the MAACO fire within six minutes to find the one-story commercial building on fire at 10:19 p.

The Vancouver Fire Department has partnered with local, state and federal health agencies to support COVID-19 vaccination efforts through group home vaccination clinics and medical oversight at the Tower Mall community vaccination site (5403 E. Mill Plain Blvd.).
“Over the last year, our firefighters have seen firsthand how this virus spread like wildfire into our community,” said Vancouver Fire Chief Brennan Blue.
