Ohio State University studying the effects of COVID-19 on first responders

As the world is getting back to some normalcy, medical experts want to reemphasize the pandemic isn’t over, which is why the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s research team is trying to understand the impact COVID-19 has had on first responders. OSU Wexner Medical Center and researchers at the OSU College of Medicine have been awarded a five-year, $10 million grant from the National Cancer Institute in the National Institutes of Health to study the long-term, longitudinal impact of COVID-19 on first responders, healthcare workers, and the general population.

Structure fire near Wapato spread to nearby vehicles

A storage building and several vehicles have been destroyed by a fire that erupted in Wapato Thursday morning. How Avista is preparing for wildfire season in the Inland Northwest

The Inland Northwest is gearing up for wildfire season and so is the area's biggest utility company, Avista. A DNR report released on Tuesday found it was a tree limb that fell onto an Avista power line that caused last year's devastating Babb Road Fire that destroyed the towns of Malden and Pine City.

Grovetown (GA) Donating Older Fire Apparatus

The city of Grovetown is donating one of its older fire trucks to the volunteer fire department in Kite (GA), reports WRDW 12.

The 1989 Pierce pumper can handle 1,250 gallons per minute.

Grovetown Mayor Gary Jones will hold an official ceremony on May 24 at the Grovetown Department of Public Safety Headquarters.

Winston-Salem (NC) Fire Department Works on Emergency Driving Training

Winston-Salem Fire Department does hundreds of hours worth of training each year, reports WXII 12.

The training includes emergency driving training in which fire truck drivers practice drills that can prepare them for any hazards or obstacles.

It takes 60 hours of training in order to drive a standard fire engine and another 60 hours to drive the long Tiller truck.

The long hours of training help payoff when the trucks must travel rapidly to emergency scenes.
