Honoring an Arizona firefighter at the highest peak

VIDEO: "The camaraderie on this thing was fantastic, we spent a lot time busting each other's chops and a lot of emotion when we got to the top." Chief Tom Shannon, along with a group of Scottsdale firefighters and a few close friends, wanted to pay tribute to Austin Peck. Peck was a former crew member who lost his battle with occupational cancer.

Black Saturday: One of the largest fires in New York history in photos

Nearly 60 years ago, 100 homes were destroyed, as three different fires simultaneously burned through multiple Staten Island neighborhoods. On April 20, 1963, also known as Black Saturday, a total of three large brush fires began in Rossville, Tottenville, and Mariners Harbor. In their wake, the fires caused more than $2 million of property damage and left over 500 people homeless.

One Person In Hospital Following Kennewick Apartment Fire

According to Battalion Chief Tod Kreutz, KFD was notified of a fire at 465 N Arthur St. (Tanglewood Apartments) at 6:15 pm. The first Kennewick Fire units to arrive found smoke from a second floor apartment where they put out the fire quickly and did a primary search. Kreutz says within minutes, they located one victim in the fire room that was unconscious and had burns.

Whitman County dispatchers reflect on calls: 'Dispatchers are the first of the first responders'

Emergency dispatchers are trained to operate six computers, four speakers, one headset and handle multiple callers all at once. Last year, Whitman County Regional Communications Center 911 answered over 92,000 service calls, 30,000 911 calls and 80,000 non-emergency calls. Whitcom celebrated its 25th anniversary during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Wilkes-Barre City (PA) Firefighters IAFF Local 104 Trains With New Tiller Ladder

Members of Wilkes-Barre City (PA) Firefighters IAFF Local 104 were recently training with a new tiller ladder at the Washington Square Apartments high-rise, reports wnep.com.

The truck, which cost more than $1 million and was paid for with government grants, requires two drivers and has a ladder that ascends 107 feet.

Fire officials said that the aim of the training was to set the ladder, see how high it goes, and work on positioning.
