PHOTO: The partnership between Oklahoma State University and the City of Stillwater has always been crucial to the success of each institution as a whole. Stillwater and OSU sprang up almost simultaneously over 125 years ago, and their connection remains strong to this day, with their latest partnership culminating in an OSU-branded ladder truck for the Stillwater Fire Department.

VIDEO: Two homes were destroyed and 12 students were displaced from a half-acre wildfire that started in Pullman. A tree caught fire on a property on Maple Street, quickly spreading to the house and engulfing it in flames. Winds picked up embers from the fire and carried them a block away to Howard Street, igniting a fire on another house’s cedar shingles and starting a brush fire on a nearby hillside.

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One says that “post-traumatic stress injury” led to the sudden death of one of its firefighters, 47-year-old Eliza Hoover. In a release Thursday, the district said it was important to “pause to reflect on the importance of mental health awareness within the industry of first responders” and that “acknowledging the post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI) that led to FF/PM Hoover’s death is the first step.

The City of Kenmore is calling for Governor Jay Inslee to use his powers to shut down a Cadman asphalt plant when wildfire smoke blankets the area. “It’s like a triple whammy,” said Kate Donaldson of those smoke filled days. Donaldson's condominium overlooks the asphalt plant from across SR 522. The nearly 60-year-old plant creates enough problems for her from its own emissions when the wind is blowing her direction, which she said is often.
