Cripple Creek (CO) Fire Department Celebrates New Truck with Block Party

According to a report from Pikes Peak Courier, the Cripple Creek (CO) Fire Department (CCFD) threw a block party at it station 147 E. Bennett Avenue on March 8 to celebrate its new $171,451 rescue truck.

The rescue, built by BFX Fire Apparatus in Weatherford, Texas, was funded partly by a $75,000 grant from the Department of Local Affairs as well as a $25,000 donation from Newmont Mining Corp. It replaces a 1998 Ford light rescue truck.

The vehicle’s body was built from fiber composite technology and includes LED scene lighting with an 80,000-lumen light tower with 7.5 feet of lift. The vehicle can also transport extrication tools and vehicle stabilization struts and air bags for auto accidents.

The rescue also features equipment needed for high- and low-angle rescue operations as well as medical equipment for responding to trauma and emergency medical services calls, hazmat monitoring, and other responses.

Former CCFD Chief Dean O’Nale opened the ceremony, crediting former city manager Mark Campbell, who wrote the DOLA grant and was also in attendance.

Davis (CA) Chief Requests New Ladder Truck to Finance and Budget Commission

According to a report from The Davis Vanguard, Davis (CA) Fire Department (DFD) Chief Joe Tenney spoke on the importance of adding a ladder truck to the department’s fleet to DFD to commission members at the city’s Finance and Budget Commission Meeting on Monday, March 8.

Tenney presented five critical resource needs of his department: a 100-foot aerial ladder truck, more administrative staff, a replacement for DFD Fire Station 31, and a new training facility. He also detailed the equipment on the ladder trucks, requiring an aerial ladder, ground ladder complements, portable lightings, special rescue tools (for both technical rescues and confined space rescues) and power generators.

Tenney proceeded to list the recommendations provided by the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA). According to the NFPA, 17 personnel members are recommended for issues occurring at a residence, 28 personnel for a three-story apartment and open-air/strip malls, and 42 personnel for high-rises.

Tenney also listed possible funding sources for the department’s needs such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s SAFER and Assistance for Firefighters grants.

If the motion for the ladder is passed, the commission must present the proposal to the Davis City Council in a document with Tenney’s and their proposals included.
