City in Montana celebrates completion of memorial honoring those lost in 1895 warehouse explosion

VIDEO: Butte firefighters, police, and members of a local history group braved the bitter cold on Monday afternoon to remember the lives lost in a devastating explosion and fire that took place almost 130 years ago in the Mining City’s warehouse district. The Kenyon-Connell Warehouse fire of 1895 took the lives of all but two Butte firefighters when illegal dynamite exploded.

Fire engulfs 2-story Maple Valley home, 1 injured

PHOTO: One person was taken to the hospital after a fire engulfed a home in Maple Valley Tuesday morning. According to Puget Sound Fire, crews began receiving calls about a garage fire near a home on 218 Avenue SE around 7 a.m. While the fire was initially reported in the garage, it quickly spread to a two-story home.

Daughters of Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighters among civilian award recipients

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue recently recognized three people for their assistance with administering CPR in emergency settings, including two daughters of firefighters. The Civilian Action Award was presented at the Jan. 8 fire commissioners meeting to Olivia Wildes, daughter of CKFR paramedic Jeff Wildes, and Ella Dick, daughter of CKFR apparatus operator Amanda Rohr.

Moses Lake man dead in house fire

A 92-year-old Moses Lake man is dead after a fire on the night of Tuesday, Jan 16. Firefighters responded to the house fire at 8725 Neppel Rd., about six miles north of Moses Lake, around 11:45 p.m. About half the home was on fire when crews arrived, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office. When the fire was put out, the body of Nathan Lee Jones was found inside.

Retired Massachusetts firefighter invents tool to help fight electric vehicle fires

VIDEO/PHOTO: Electric vehicles (EV) can be a major risk if they catch on fire. The blaze can last 24 hours if firefighters can't get to the battery. A retired Everett fire captain has a new invention to battle the flames. He calls it the Gerry Pipe. "We got to cool down the battery underneath," said inventor and former Everett Fire Captain Gerry O'Hearn, "The key is no one gets hurt.
